|Many pilgrims have reached Madhu Shrine to participate in the Pilgrimage programme organized by the Archdiocese of Colombo to be held from 14th - 17th May 2014.
His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, having declared this year as the Year of Mary Our Blessed Mother, invited the priests, religious and the faithful to join in a Pilgrimage to Madhu Shrine and participate in the 4-day Retreat programme at the Shrine.
On the first day, 14th May, programme for the pilgrims was started with the recitation of Rosary in all three languages in the evening and thereafter His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm presided at the Eucharistic celebration together with the Auxiliary Bishops. Several priests and religious who had travelled from Colombo, participated in the Holy Eucharist together with the faithful.
Thereafter on each Holy Masses were celebrated in the morning and in the evening. Fathers were available for confessions and pilgrims were involved in several spiritual activities, including confessions, recitation of Rosary as families, hours of adoration and some pilgrims were seen conducting Way of the Cross Services as acts of penance.
During the day both in the morning evening, special talks were given by Rev. Fathers in all three languages in different places based on the Role of Mary Our Mother and her messages to the world.
On 16th May evening Rosary was recited at the Grotto site and a procession with candle lights proceeded to the Madhu Shrine. While His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith preached in Sinhala and Rev. Fr. Robinson Ramesh O.M.I. preached in Tamil. His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and His Lordship Bishop Emmanuel Fernando consecrated the Archdiocese and the country to Our Blessed Mother.
His Eminence presided at the Solemn Benediction Service and imparted the blessings.
On 17th May, Saturday, His Eminence presided at the solemn Mass together with the auxiliary Bishops and Rev. Fathers.
After the Mass, the statue of Our Lady of Madhu was taken around in a procession. After prayers to Our Lady of Madhu, His Eminence blessed the pilgrims with the statue of Our Lady of Madhu and concluded the Pilgrimage of the Archdiocese.
