Through the initiation of Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Pinto SDB, Provincial of the Salesians, Don Bosco distributed 15 boat engines to the fishermen at Sea Street, Negombo, who are working in Baththalangunduwa, on 20th June 2007 at Eththukala Don Bosco Institute.

It was on 20th April 2007,fishermen in Baththalangunduwa were attacked and13 boat engines and 25 boats were taken by the LTTE.
Spokesman for these fishermen addressing the gathering said, “several files and many details were taken by the government promising to give engines and boats, but it is once again the Catholic Church who took the initiative to help the fishermen.”
Fr. Pinto SDB appealed to the fishermen to protect whatever has been given to them to lookafter their living and assured them that Don Bosco would to give them boats and requested the fishermen to give their labour to make the boats soon. Fr. Pinto further appealed to these Catholic fishermen from Sea Street, Negombo, to live as faithful and good Catholic families and thanked the donors for the generous contributions.
Parish Priest of Pitipana Fr. Ciswan D’Croos, Fr. Roy SDB and the families of these fishermen were present at the distribution of boat engines.
