Sacred Relics of St. Anthony were taken to Galle St. Mary's Cathedral on 10th March 2010 and then to Balangoda Church amidst a massive crowd along the Galle road. Children of the Schools and the faithful gathered on the road to receive the Blessings of St. Anthony.
After the 6.00 a.m. Holy Mass at St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade, Sacred Relics of St. Anthony were taken in procession along the Galle road. His Grace Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith accompanied the Chariot upto Beruwala Church and thereafter, Rev. Fr. Clement Rozairo together with few other priests proceeded to South.
The Rector of the Basilica of St. Anthony, Padua Very Rev. Fr. Paolo Poiana, Rev. Fr. Alessandra Ratti and Rev. Fr. Neville Joe Perera will be accompanying the Sacred Relics to the other dioceses in Sri Lanka.
Procession stopped at the turn to Kadalana Church and His Grace Archbishop Malcolm imparted the blessings from the Sacred Relics and also handed over to the Parish Priest of Kadalana, another Sacred Relic of St. Anthony, which was brought from the Basilica of St. Anthony, Padua, to be kept at St. Anthony's Church, Kadalana.
Thereafter procession stopped at Kalamulla junction and His Grace Archbishop Malcolm imparted the blessings from the Sacred Relics and also handed over to the Parish Priest of Kalamulla, another Sacred Relic of St. Anthony, to be kept at St. Anthony's Church, Kalamulla.
People were seen in tears and kneeling on the road to receive the blessings from St. Anthony. His Grace Archbishop Malcolm said, “ surely these humble people with simple and deep faith in St. Anthony will receive his abundant blessings and favours ”.
Beruwala faithful had a very rare occasion when the Chariot was taken to St. Anne's Church, Beruwala to transfer the Sacred Relics to another vehicle to be taken to Galle Cathedral. Sacred Relics were taken to the Beruwala Church for few minutes, while the other vehicle was prepared. The faithful of Beruwala had the opportunity to pray before the Sacred Relics and then to receive the blessings of the Sacred Relics from His Grace Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith.
Rev. Fathers of Galle Diocese received the Sacred Relics at Bentota bridge, the southern boundary of the Archdiocese, and then proceeded to Galle.
After few hours at the Galle Cathedral, Sacred Relics were taken to Balangoda Church by 9.15 p.m. Tomorrow, 11th March, after the Holy Mass at the Balangoda Church at 8.00 a.m., Sacred Relics will be taken to Bandarawela St. Anthony's Church.
For the last few days, St. Anthony's Shrine at Kochchikade had to be kept opened until 3.00 a.m. and to open again at 4.00 p.m. for the people who had been coming to receive the blessings of St. Anthony and pray before the Sacred Relics.
