[ 12.05.2008 - Fr. Sunil De Silva ]
According to the information received from the Vicar General of Mannar Diocese Very Rev. Fr. Victor Soosai, Wanni Security Forces Commander Major General Jagath Jayasuriya has sent in writing to His Lordship Bishop Rayappu Joseph, the Bishop of Mannar, assuring that the Sri Lanka Security Forces would respect the 2.5km distance of the Madhu Shrine area and not to involve in any military activities in the Shrine premises.

His Lordship Bishop Rayappu Joseph appealed to both the LTTE and the Sri Lanka Security Forces to keep away from the Madhu Shrine area and not to engage in military activities in the Sacred area and also His Lordship appealed to the President of Sri Lanka to declare the Madhu Shrine area as " a ZONE OF PEACE ", which all the Madhu pilgrims in Sri Lanka are still waiting to hear.

While the Sri Lanka Army has responded to the request of His Lordship Bishop Rayappu, LTTE is yet to respond to the request.
