At a Meeting held on 28th April 2008 at the Bishop's House, Mannar, His Lordship Bishop Rayappu Joseph and about 30 Priests, after discussing the situation at Madhu laid conditions before they bring the Sacred Statue of Our Lady Madhu, to the Shrine.
Rev. Fr. Suresh Ravel Leenus, Secretary to the Bishop of Mannar said, " the conditions laid after the decisions taken at the meeting are, that both the LTTE and the Sri Lanka Army should give in writing that they will keep away from the Madhu Shrine area of 2km, that the government allow the refugees and the displaced people to find shelter at the Shrine premises and the government to declare the Shrine area as ' a ZONE OF PEACE '.
For the Madhu Shrine, an area of 2km had been allocated for the purpose of Shrine Feasts and for pilgrims.
Due to heavy exchange of artillery around the Madhu Shrine, His Lordship Bishop Rayappu Joseph gave the instructions to the Administrator of the Madhu Shrine Very Rev. Fr. Emiliaspillai to take the Statue of Our Lady of Madhu to a safer location.
Then the Statue of Madhu was taken to Theavanpiddi Church on 03rd April 2008.
