Entrance to the Madhu Road - Madhu

According to the government communique published in the Daily News on 12th August 2008, the Government will open the Madhu Church for devotees from August 12 to 17.

During this period 200 devotees will be daily given an opportunity to visit the Madhu Shrine and pray to pray to Our Lady of Madhu.

After the Madhu Shrine was freed from the military activities and the terrorists, de-mining has been carried out in a limited area in the vicinity of the Shrine and this has caused the Government to limit the number of devotees visiting the Shrine.

The devotees are expected to extend their fullest co-operation to the relevant authorities there.

The pilgrims who arrived at Medawachchiya on last Saturday had been taken in the government buses today in the morning and they will have to return in the evening. Medawachchiya security personnel have arranged the school ground for the parking of the vehicles of the pilgrims who reach Medawachchiya to go to Madhu Shrine.

His Lordship Bishop Rayappu Joseph in a Press release has said that the traditional Madhu Festival will not be held in this year, only the Holy Mass will be held on 15th August 2008
