His Eminence Cardinal Canizares Llovera the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in the Vatican presided at the Liturgy Convention of the Archdiocese which began today at the Aquinas University College. His Grace Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith welcomed His Eminence Cardinal Canizares, His Excellency the Apostolic Nuncion in Sri Lanka Archbishop Joseph Spiteri and all other Bishops, Priests, Religious and lay faithful participating in the Convention which will be concluded on Friday the 03rd September 2010.
His Grace Archbishop Malcolm
explained the purpose of having the Liturgy Convention in the Archdiocese in this Year of the Eucharist. His Grace Archbishop Malcolm declared the Year of the Eucharist in the Archdiocese at the Basilica of Our Lady of Lanka on 29th August 2010.
His Eminence
Cardinal Canizares gave the key note address today on
"Liturgy, the most effective way of experiencing the overpowering presence of God in human life" and Rev. Fr. Daya Shelton Welikadarachchi spoke on "Eucharist, the finest expression of God's saving love".
There were Group discussions held in the afternoon and during the evening session, Rev. Fr. Michale Lang spoke on "Beauty and Liturgy: Towards an understanding of the concept of Liturgy as a glimpse of heaven".
His Grace the Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Marcus Fernando, His Grace the Archbishop Oswald Gomis, His Lordship Bishop Vianney Fernando Bishop of Kandy and the Chairman of the Liturgy Commission in the Bishops' Conference and the Administrator of Galle Diocese Very Rev. Fr. Nihal Nanayakkara and representatives of other dioceses were also present.
