Rev. Fr. Ranjith Roy Hewagamage was called to Eternal Rest in the Lord on Sunday the 08th July 2007 at Ragama Hospital.
His mortal remains were brought to the St. Anthony's Shrine, Liyanagemulla, by 8. 00 p.m. and will lie until Monday 5.00 p.m.
After the Holy Mass at 4.00 p.m. on Monday, presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Francis Nicholas Senanayake Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese, his mortal body was transferred to St. Mary's Church, Weliwita. Fr. Francis not only lookedafter Fr. Roy specially when he was ill, but also he attended to the pastoral work of the parish of Liyanagemulla, when Fr. Roy was treated for liver cancer in the hospital.

His Grace the Archbiship Oswald Gomis presided at the funeral Mass on Tuesday the 10th July 2007, together with His Grace the Archbishop Emeritus Most Rev. Dr. Nicholas Marcus Fernando and His Lordship Bishop Marius Peiris, with the presence of a very large gathering of Priests, Religious and the people from the parishes where he served.

Rev. Fr. Ranjith Roy Hewagamage, son of Mr. Francis Hewagamage and Mrs. Dora Luisa, was born on 02nd October 1952 and was ordained as a Priest in the Archdiocese of Colombo, on 05th July 1980.
After the ordination he was appointed as an Assistant Parish Priest to St. Lucia's Cathedral, Kotahena on 21st July 1980. Thereafter he served as the Parish Priest of Kalutara, Payagala and again in the Parish of Kalutara in 1985.
He then went to Beligum for further studies in Sacred Theology and Catechetics in Leuven University and on his return, he was appointed as the Archdiocesan Director for Catechetics on 15th August 1992.
He was appointed as the Administrator of St. Anthony's Shrine, Liyanagemulla on 22nd April 2001 and also the Administrator of the Archdiocesan Estates. |

When the body of Fr. Ranjith Roy was brought to the St. Anthony's Shrine, Liyanagemulla, Holy Eucharist was offered for his repose soul, presided by Fr. Leslie Fernando together with, Fr. Francis Nicholas Senanayake, Fr. Wilfred Pinto and with the presence of priests, religious and the parishioners.
Fr. Julian preaching at the Mass said that, " many priests follow different methods of fulfilling the mission entrusted to them by the Lord. Fr. Roy followed one method, that is ' he was with the people of the Lord '. When he served as the Archdiocesan Director for Catechetics, his main effort was not only to teach catechetics, but helping the children to live a life that is taught in the catechetical classes." Fr. Julian went on to say that."we have lost a friend and a priest of the Lord, if this is the will of the Lord, we humbly accept God's plan". |
