His Lordship Bishop Thomas Sauvdranayagam, the Bishop of Jaffna in his letter on 21st July 2008, appeals to His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksha for the immense suffering of the displaced people from Manthai West of Mannar who are moving towards interior of Killinochchi district.

In his letter His Lordship Bishop Thomas says, " the plight of the people who live in the villages along the Mannar - Poonagarin road is also the same and that they are fleeing with their families towards the interior Killinochchi."

Due to the war, thousands of people have been displaced and living in refugee camps and have been moving from place to place. Bishop Thomas in his letter mentions that there is no one to assist these people and draws the immediate concern of the President.
